Why plant Ouachita Blackberry?

Pick your own bushel of blackberries with Quachita Blackberry, a thornless plant perfectly compact to have potted berries growing right on your patio! Built to bear fruit during the first year so that you can indulge on big bunches of delicious berries during a warm summer day! A belly full of berries and plenty more for jam! So plant today, and watch the beautiful white blossoms turn into sweet edible blackberries for you and the family to enjoy!

Ouachita Blackberry is a 2003 product of the University of Arkansas. The fruits are similar in size to the Arapaho and Navaho blackberries, a disease-resistant blackberry that tolerates heat.

How to use Ouachita Blackberry in the landscape?

A thornless wonder! Ouachita Blackberry is an easy-to-grow blackberry vine that can be trained to a trellis. You'll enjoy the double blooms in early spring, just to be followed soon after with the black fruits we all enjoy. Ouachita berries can be harvested as soon as mid-June, but harvesting can easily extend into late summer. The blackberries are sweet and have an overall wonderful flavor. Ouachita is heat tolerant and disease resistant, making this an excellent choice for all landscapes and gardens!

How To Plant Ouachita Blackberry

Ouachita Blackberry enjoys being in full view of the sun to bask in the warmth and grow the delicious berries that we know and love. Blackberries enjoy being planted in acidic soil, rich in organic matter, moist, and well-draining. Be sure not to plant blackberries in wet, soggy soil; these berries do not enjoy having wet feet. If the landscape has clay soil, planting raspberries in raised beds would be a great option to enjoy growing your fruit. After fruiting, prune all canes that produced fruit. Thoroughly prune late winter to early spring to remove any damage occurring during dormancy. Blackberries are self-fertile, so you do not need to plant another blackberry bush.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
