Violette de Bordeaux Fig dates back to 16th century France where it was grown near Paris and enjoyed for it's two crops and delicious fruit. Sometimes referred to as Negronne, there was some debate over whether the two names were describing the same fig. Both trees were determined to be the same tree once Negronne was brought over to California years after Violette was already introduced into the landscape.
How to use Violette de Bordeaux Fig in the landscape?
A natural dwarf tree, Violette de Bordeaux adds big impact in a small package. From the tropical leaves to the dark-skinned fruit with rosy strawberry-colored flesh, Violette is a great choice for backyard orchards everywhere. Use Violette as a makeshift hedge and leave any low-hanging branches remaining to block out any unsightly views.
