Why plant Miss Molly Butterfly Bush?

Good Golly, Miss Molly! Have you seen the blooms on this one!? The Miss Molly Butterfly Bush explodes in deep, red wine flowers from late spring well into the fall season, providing a never-ending source of pollen and nectar for all of our winged friends - from bees to hummingbirds! Not only are these blooms one of the most uniquely colored in the Butterfly Bush family, but they are also intensely fragrant! Aside from the stunning blooms, the Miss Molly Butterfly Bush is a deciduous shrub, providing velvety soft green foliage during the growing season as a lovely backdrop, before falling into dormancy for the winter season. With resistance to deer, rabbits and more, the Miss Molly Butterfly Bush more than earns her spot in your landscape - what are you waiting for?!

We can give thanks to Dr. Dennis Werner of North Carolina State University for the introduction of the Miss Molly Butterfly Bush! He developed it by combining the 'Miss Ruby' and the 'Attraction' varieties, creating the non-invasive, stunning Miss Molly we know and love today!

How to use Miss Molly Butterfly Bush in the landscape?

The Miss Molly Butterfly Bush is a spectacular addition to any garden, as she is the only Butterfly Bush to produce a flower color so close to red. Like its sibling, the Asian Moon Butterfly Bush, Miss Molly is non-invasive, allowing you to plant freely without hindering the natural environment around you. Miss Molly is a beautiful addition to your landscape when planted as a low flowering hedge, in a pollinator garden or along your back patio, where you'll be able to enjoy the sweet fragrance of the blooms all season long!

How To Plant Miss Molly Butterfly Bush

Thriving best in locations that offer full sun, the Miss Molly Butterfly Bush also offers some amazing soil adaptability. No need to worry about how acidic or alkaline your soil is or the composition of the soil - Miss Molly isn't picky! Heavy clay may be the only soil type that would cause some form of an issue, however make sure you choose a site that offers decent drainage and you should be fine. Maintain a watering schedule until established, feed when necessary, and enjoy the beautiful blooms and visitors year in and year out!

How To Water

When freshly planted, give your Miss Molly a deep and thorough watering. For on going care in the first year, you should water twice a week. After it has become established, it will be drought tolerant.

How To Fertilize

At the time of planting, we recommend fertilizing your Miss Molly with the Bower & Branch Elements Starter Plant Food. For ongoing feeding, it's best to do so in early spring, before it breaks dormancy for the season!

How To Prune

The best time to prune your Miss Molly is in early spring, before the push of new growth. We recommend pruning for shape as well as maintaining size, this shrub blooms on new wood so you won't be missing out on any blooms by pruning at this time! You can also encourage repeat and consistent blooms by deadheading as the flowers fade in season.
