Bower & Branch Landscape Design Tip

Plant Elliott Blueberry in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil for the best growth and fruit quality. If your soil is not naturally acidic, amend it with peat moss or pine bark, or use a soil mix designed for acid-loving plants. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during flowering and fruiting, and add mulch to protect roots and retain moisture. Prune older canes in late winter to encourage fresh new growth. Though self-pollinating, Elliott produces larger crops and bigger berries when planted near other highbush varieties such as Bluecrop or Chandler.

How to use Elliott's Highbush Blueberry in the landscape?

How To Plant Elliott's Highbush Blueberry

Acidic soil is key to growing Blueberries successfully. These peat-loving Accents require very low–pH conditions in order to thrive. If your soil isn’t naturally acidic, you may want to grow your Blueberry in a large container or raised bed. Give it all-day sun if possible and use lots of organic matter—both as a soil amendment and as mulch. Elliott's Blueberry is self-pollinating, but you’ll get bigger fruits and more of them if you plant another variety of Highbush Blueberry nearby so they can pollinate each other.

How To Water

When watering the Elliott's Blueberry, you'll want to water them regularly. In the summer, irrigation is recommended every two or three days to protect the plant for the hot summer weather.

How To Prune

Not much pruning is required, however, you can prune in late winter to early sprung to thin out the branching. This will help maintain the plant size and make harvesting easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Elliott ripens later than most blueberries, typically from August into early September. It is one of the last varieties to produce, extending your harvest into fall.

Yes. Elliott is self-pollinating, but planting it near other varieties such as Duke or Bluecrop can enhance fruit size and overall yield.
