Why plant Bengal Tiger Canna Lily?

Say hello to the Bengal Tiger Canna Lily! Some might call him the Tiger King with his boasting striped green leaves, and blushed orange flowers like crumpled Indian silk! This eye-catcher will definitely add some exotic flair to your garden, and unforgettable summer days. So attractive even the hummingbirds can’t resist those tall tangerine blooms. Perfect in patio containers or highlighting a garden bed, you (and your neighbors!) will roar with delight! Find his Queen and check out our Cleopatra Canna Lily too!

Few plants project a spirit of Tropicalissmo like Cannas. Indeed, these heat-loving beauties do hail from the tropics. Their native ranges extend from the Deep South in the United States through Central and South America. A bit of a botanical oddity, the group is the only living genus in its whole family. Canna is distantly related to gingers and bananas, plants which can also be added to the tropical-style garden to great effect!

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 7-11

How To Plant Bengal Tiger Canna Lily

Cannas prefer to be planted in a full sun location but they can handle a bit of shade as well. They do thrive in soil that is average to wet, so be sure to water well!

Depending on your location, the Bengal Tiger may not be hardy for overwintering. No fear though! We have the solution! At the end of the season, when the shine on the blooms and foliage has faded, it is time to cut them down. You can then dig up the bulbs and store them in a dark, frost free location - ie, your garage or basement - until it's time to plant again in spring!

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
