Frequently Asked Questions
Sweetgum trees produce small, inconspicuous flowers in spring. They are not ornamental and are not the reason to plant this tree. Cherokee™ is best known for its foliage and fall color.
Cherokee™ thrives in full sun with well-drained, moderately moist soil. It is adaptable once established but benefits from regular watering during dry periods. Apply mulch annually to retain moisture and protect the roots.
This tree needs very little pruning. You may remove lower limbs in winter to encourage a clear trunk, if desired. Avoid cutting into the central leader or shaping it unnaturally, as its upright form develops naturally and beautifully.
