Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 4-9

How To Plant Blackberry Merlot Rose Mallow

Be sure to plant the Blackberry Merlot Rose Mallow in a location that offers full sun to part shade and it prefers a moist but well-draining soil. Have some patience when it comes to this Hibiscus, as they are one of the last ones to break dormancy in spring!

How To Water

Water twice weekly for the first 3-5 weeks; then water weekly for the remainder of the year until winter. When you water, water very slowly and very thoroughly. The water needs to reach to the bottom of the root ball and that takes time. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late year. Continue this for three years to get your plant well established.

How To Prune

For fuller plants, pinch the tips of each stem when they are between 6 and 8" tall. This will force your plants to branch and to generate more flowers.

died over winter

stunning plant but unlike all plants i planted at the same time, this one died over winter for me.

Hello Nurunisa!

Thank you for your feedback as we do appreciate it!

When it comes to the Blackberry Merlot Rose Mallow, we do recommend that you give that fella a bit more time before you give up on it completely. Rose Mallows are notoriously late bloomers and often times, do not break dormancy until late May to early June when temperatures are consistantly in the high 70s and up. They need sunshine and heat to wake up for the summer, so we do ask that you give it a few more weeks before 'calling it'!

Our team will reach out to you directly via email to review this with you as well. We look forward to chatting with you!
