Why plant Chrisolyn Jonathan Apple Bare Root?

An updated version to the classic Jonathan Apple, the Chrisolyn Jonathan brings the traditional Jonathon quality mixed with exceptional flavor. This cherry-red and striped apple is the tart apple that bakers everywhere will be wanting to add to their next dish. From the phenomenal flavor retention, even after cooking, to the unique coloring, this is an apple that will change cooking with apples as we know it.

Chrisolyn Jonathan was a coincidental find at Peters Orchards. Located in Waverly, Missouri, Chrisolyn was discovered as a limb sport. The man attributed to finding Chrisolyn was Jeff Campbell, an employee of Peters Orchards. Since its discovery, Chrisolyn has taken off in popularity as a great baking apple due to how well it retains its flavor.

How to use Chrisolyn Jonathan Apple Bare Root in the landscape?

Best known for its signature flavor, Chrisolyn has bakers everywhere swooning over its great baking qualities. Appearance-wise, Chrisolyn has bright, cherry-red skin that develops dark red stripes as the apple ages. From there, the crisp white flesh holds a tart flavor that maintains even after baking. How To Plant Chrisolyn Jonathan Apple Bare Root

Plant your Chrisolyn Jonathan Apple Tree in an open spot that receives sun all day long and where air circulates freely. The soil should be moderately fertile and well drained—it shouldn’t stay soggy after a rain, but it should hold some moisture. An annual mulch of shredded bark or wood chips will help to hold in moisture and keep the root zone cool in summer. Be sure to keep mulch from contacting the trunk directly. Apple Trees are subject to a number of pests and diseases, but they are generally treatable or preventable with some know-how.

How To Water

Water deeply, and regularly during its first few years in the ground. Irrigate weekly, and especially during long dry spells or extreme heat after it’s established.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.

How To Prune

Always promptly remove and destroy any diseased branches, leaves, or fruit from your Apple tree and around the base. Leaving those in place could cause reinfection the following year.

How Does Shipping Work?

Size AA & AAA (our Treelings, Shrubs, Bushes, and Perennials) will be shipped directly to your home by a common carrier. Ships in a plant-safe designed box within 5-7 business days.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health.. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
