Why plant Dura Heat River Birch?
Unique on its own, the Dura River Birch is a must have in any landscape! This tree offers not only wonderful foliage through spring and summer, but also has magnificent fall colors to boot! The Dura Heat offers dark glossy green foliage that is more dense than other varieties of Birch. When considering this tree, it would be foolish to undervalue the distinctive looking bark. Light in color as an almost salmon-pink to reddish brown, the bark of the Birch will, over time, exfoliate the outer layers, exposing the multi-tonal inner bark ranging from hues of pink to almost cinnamon colors. This River Birch is known for its robust, fast-growing capabilities, growing anywhere from 30-40' tall as well as 20-30' wide in some cases. With everything the Dura Heat River Birch has to offer, an absolute favorite quality is the fall foliage. Vibrant, bright hues of yellow dance in the chilly fall breeze, aiding in the motion and flow of your landscape. A little factoid about the Dura Heat is that, like most of the Betula family being native to the United States, the Dura Heat variation was developed in Florida from seeds taken from the wild, garnering their tolerance to heat and pests!
How to use Dura Heat River Birch in the landscape?
It's no surprise why the Dura Heat River Birch can be considered a fan favorite. With its adaptability to many soil types, tolerance to heat, drought, and pests, it speaks for itself. This tree's fast growing habit makes it perfect to be used as a shelter-belt to protect landscapes from harsh winds and to provide shade. The Dura Heat would look amazing planted as a specimen on any property due to its unique bark and brilliant foliage. A few other locations or uses for the Dura Heat River Birch are in lower laying lands that accumulate water, along ponds or streams, while even thriving in urban areas as street trees or beside tall buildings!

How To Plant Dura Heat River Birch
When growing Dura Heat River Birch there is little you have to worry about. This tree's adaptability is like no other, being able to sustain life in almost any kind of soil and climate across the United States. When first planted, it's best to keep the surrounding soil moist for better quality growth.
How To Water
The Dura Heat River Birch enjoys, loves and thrives in moist soil! When first planted, to keep the soil moist, water at least three times a week (depending on the weather). Once the tree is established, watering once a week will suffice. However, keep an eye on the weather for hotter, drier days and water as needed. Here's a tip to help through winter - during the fall months, make sure these trees are watered well enough to store some of that moisture through the coldest months.
How To Fertilize
We here at Bower & Branch offer our Elements Starter Plant Food to make fertilizing easy! It is recommended that you fertilize your Birch in the spring once the frost passes. When fertilizing younger trees, you may fertilize again in 6 - 8 weeks to allow denser, faster growth.
How To Prune
For the Dura Heat River Birch, you'll want to remove dead, diseased, or injured branches. Branches that rub together can cause damage so we suggest removing them, as well as any branch that takes away from the appearance of the tree itself.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
