Why plant Falling Waters Bald Cypress?
Like the famous Frank Lloyd Wright house, Falling Waters Baldcypress (or “Bald Cypress”) is a work of art. This rare and choice tree features branches that arch and weep and fine, feathery foliage that turns coppery orange in fall. Unusual among conifers, this one loses its leaves in the fall, putting that interesting architectural framework into full view all winter. Plant it in the front yard where it will be the showpiece of the landscape, or plant it near your deck or patio where you entertain, and it will be a sure conversation starter at your next get-together.
Bald Cypress is a charismatic tree native to swampy regions of the Deep South. Related to the ancient Redwoods of the West, trees in the East can reach the venerable age of 1,800 years. This selection was brought to the U.S. from Germany by an American immigrant with a story of his own, named Harald Neubauer. As a boy, Neubauer and his family fled their native Poland for East Germany when the Russian Army advanced, later escaping again to West Germany. Harald eventually settled in Tennessee. His friend, nurseryman Don Shadow, named this plant.
How to use Falling Waters Bald Cypress in the landscape?
This is the most unique tree I've ever seen! It's so unique that I'm even creating new words to express my thoughts...not exactly your common "weeping" tree. Green deciduous needles turn bronze in fall before dropping for winter. A great form for winter interest in the garden. Falling Waters also showcases reddish brown bark that peels in strips. There's only one way to enjoy this awesome tree - plant one for yourself!
Hardiness Zone: 4-11
How To Plant Falling Waters Bald Cypress
Falling Waters is a strongly weeping plant and may need staking to continue to guide it into an upright form. You can also let the branches arch and tumble as they will. Though a native of swamps, this tree will grow just fine in drier soil, and even though it’s a native of the Deep South, it is cold-hardy to Vermont. Pests are rarely a problem—the only time it makes homeowners panic is when they don’t realize that this conifer is supposed to drop its needles!
How To Water
Water deeply, and regularly during first few years in the ground. Irrigate weekly, especially during prolonged dry spells or extreme heat after it’s established.
How To Fertilize
When planting, be sure to fertilize with the Bower & Branch Elements Starter Plant Food. From there, fertilize once a year in early spring to ensure that your tree has all it needs for a healthy growing season!
How To Prune
The pruning requirements for your Falling Waters Bald Cypress are minimal due to the unique growth habit! You could trim the branches in late winter to early spring to control the length if you'd like!

How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health.. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
