How To Plant False Spirea

Are you looking to plant a False Spirea? Awesome, let's get this party started! First, let's make sure the location in mind offers full to partial sun; this will allow your Spirea to grow to its full potential. The next step is easy because the False Spirea does not require any special care - it is capable of growing in almost any soil type with the added notion that it does have good drainage. If you were able to provide a location in full sun, you will notice that the False Spirea offers a rather speedy growth rate. This is even possible in locations offering partial sun, however, in full shade you may notice a lack of urgency in growth.

How To Water

When first planted, it is customary to water deeply twice a week. This will keep the soil moist, allowing your shrub to reach its full potential. Once established, you may reduce the watering schedule but just keep in mind that this shrub does enjoy moist soils. Remember to keep an eye out for your local weather and water accordingly during periods of dry hotter weather.

How To Fertilize

If planning to fertilize your shrub, it would be best to do so in early spring before the push of new growth. Here at Bower and Branch, we offer our Elements Starter Plant Food to meet all your fertilizer needs.

How To Prune

For the best growing quality and bloom production, we recommend pruning your False Spirea after the first blooms of the year. This will cause your Spirea to push new growth and maintain its shape. During dormancy, in the winter you may give your shrub a harder prune about 10-12” from the ground, prompting a heavenly push of new growth come springtime!
