Why plant Fine Line® Buckthorn Big?

Frilly and fancy Fine Line® Buckthorn! This sophisticated little plant is the perfect vertical accent to add to your at-home garden. As these fascinating plants are extremely versatile, you can plant them just about anywhere your heart desires! Buckthorns add texture to anywhere it's needed! This feathery deciduous plant has an airy texture and its formal growth habit makes it an excellent thriller for outdoors and indoors! These shrubs have soft lacy green foliage that you'll just want to reach out and touch. In the fall, the deep green foliage transitions into golden-yellow colors—perfect for year round interest!

Glossy Buckthorns—a parent of Fine Lines, were introduced in the United States about 200 years ago from Europe. In 1989, Ron William, a nursery owner in Green Bay, Wisconsin discovered the accidental cross producing the Fine Line. He has licensed the plant patent to Spring Michigan in 2003. Since then, the Fine Line® Buckthorn continues to grow in popularity nationally.

How To Plant Fine Line® Buckthorn Big

Plant your new Fine Line® Buckthorn in partial sun or if you want best results possible, they can be placed in full sun to catch those rays. They prefer to be planted in well-draining soil, somewhere raised so water doesn't collect.

How To Water

Buckthorns require a moderate amount of water during their first season on a regular basis.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements Fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.

How To Prune

Your Fine Line® Buckthorn will only need very little pruning. Snip away any dead and broken branches anytime of the year.
