Why Plant Howardi Golden Japanese Privet?

When told to consider the Howardi Golden Privet, no time should be wasted. This shrub contributes an amazing evolution of color. The new growth shines brightly with a lemony hue, as the foliage ages, the color morphs turning to a lime green. Adaptability is the name of the game, as this shrub is able to be planted in a white range of soils. These shrubs are relatively easy to grow; offering tolerance to deer, drought, pests, and most diseases!

How to use Howardi Golden Japanese Privet in the landscape?

Want to add color to dull empty landscapes, well, we definitely have the plant for you! The Howardi Golden Privet explodes with color no matter where it's placed. This shrub does perfectly in mass plantings, or used as a privacy hedge. Another wonderful ability of the Howardi Golden Privet is its ability to be pruned into any topiary shape. We also refuse to overlook its ability to thrive in container planting, opening up a world of possibilities for even the smallest of properties!

How To Plant Howardi Golden Japanese Privet

Growing to its full potential in full sun, the Howardi is capable of handling some shade without issue. This plant offers adaptability when considering soil, allowing it to survive in most soil types while avoiding standing water, which may damage the roots.

How To Water

Watering should be done at least once a week, especially when first planted, to ensure a healthy growth habit and root system. Once established, although drought tolerant, it is always beneficial to do some mild watering to any plant. We recommend watching your local weather during hotter dry months and water accordingly.

How To Fertilize

The Howardi Golden Privet, like most plants, do enjoy a healthy feeding of fertilizer! We recommend doing so in either early spring or late fall, when you notice no new growth coming forth. We offer our Elements Starter Plant Food to meet all your fertilizer needs!

How To Prune

Howardi Golden Privet is capable of enduring a pruning throughout the year, but we recommend doing so in late winter to early spring, before the push of new growth as to not hinder its growing ability for that upcoming season.

*For Big trees and Shrubs, Size XL and bigger: Review our Seasonal Shipping Timelines and Policy here.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
