Why plant Muskogee Crape Myrtle?
Bring a little Southern hospitality to your front entranceway, pool, or patio with a Muskogee Crape Myrtle. This fast-growing ornamental tree will say, “Welcome to our home” with its frilly soft lavender-pink flowers over a long period in summer. In fall, it will often give a fond farewell to the summer season with a lavish display of red autumn foliage, too, and in winter it will show off its lovely smooth marbled trunks. In very mild-winter climates, Muskogee can become a 30-foot tree, so give it room to strut its stuff if you live in the Deep South.
André Michaux was born in 1796 in Versailles France and thanks to lessons learned from his father became, a gifted grower. After losing his beloved wife during childbirth just 11 months after they were married, Michaux was devastated. With a love of country, he devoted himself to the study of botany and was determined to make himself useful to France. In 1782, he traveled to the Middle-east. For three years he collected plants and seeds, enduring many hardships along the way. His determination did not go unnoticed and after arriving home was asked to lead an expedition to North America in search for new species of trees to rebuild depleted forests that were stripped during years of war. Appointed by King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette in 1785, he set out for North America with a small group, including his now 15 year old son, François. For years Michaux explored a young America, shipping new plant varieties to France as well as introducing new plants to America such as Mimosa and Lagerstroemia.
How to use Muskogee Crape Myrtle in the landscape?
Covered in lavender pink, papery flower clusters in summer, Muskogee is just a beaut! A common fixture in Southern gardens, Crape Myrtle flourishes in warm, dry weather but this particular variety is one of the hardiest and will survive in more Northern temps as well. Just imagine a grove of these planted together - simply wonderful y'all!

How To Plant Muskogee Crape Myrtle
Crape Myrtles love to bake in hot sun and clay soil. That’s why they’re a fixture in the South, where they’re sometimes called “Summer Lilacs.” In the North, they may die back in cold winters, often growing back from the roots. You’ll want to wait until spring to prune Muskogee. Luckily, Crape Myrtles bloom on “new wood,” meaning that if you do trim them in spring, you won’t be cutting off any flower buds. After a spring spruce-up, Muskogee will still bloom its heart out in mid to late summer.
How To Water
Once established, Crape Myrtles are drought tolerant and can survive on natural rainfall. Young plants should be watered once or twice weekly. Check soil about 3 inches down, if soil is dry than it is time to give your tree a great drink.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
Thin out young Crape Myrtles 3-4 main branches. Then, after the wonderful blooming in spring, clip the tips of the branches.

Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
