Why Plant Phantom Hydrangea Tree Form?
Hauntingly beautiful! Our Phantom Hydrangea Tree takes the old-fashioned Tree Form PeeGee Hydrangea and gives it a striking new look. Its massive, 15-inch flowerheads are the largest you’ll find on a Hydrangea of its type. They’ll make your guests do a double-take! Starting out a cool lime-green color, the blossoms mature to a “ghostly” white, eventually taking on rosy pink tones with the advent of cool autumn weather. Important for this type of Hydrangea—and especially for this particular selection—Phantom has very strong stems. It is able to hold those huge flower clusters high for all to see!
Hydrangeas are undergoing a revolution. These incredible garden plants are soaring in popularity, and plant breeders in the U.S. and Europe and around the world are working hard to produce new varieties with appealing variations in size, form, color, and bloom time. There is truly a Hydrangea for every garden. Phantom Hydrangea is a selection of Panicle Hydrangea, a super-hardy species native to Japan, China, and Taiwan. It was introduced by a Dutch nurseryman named Pieter. Surprisingly, Phantom was developed back in 1990 and was never patented. It has become popular in this country only recently, though it is destined to become an all-time favorite.

How To Plant Phantom Hydrangea Tree Form
The Tree Form Hydrangea is a fast-growing plant that we train to become a small tree for your landscape. They prefer a planting location with full sun to part shade and is most happiest in a well draining soil!
How To Water
They require keeping the soil moist (not too wet) after initial planting. Once established, they are more tolerant of drought conditions, reducing your hand-watering responsibilities.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.
How To Prune
The blooms on your Phantom Hydrangea appear on new wood (new growth!), so do your pruning in late winter or early spring. You can prune 'hard' at this point, by removing about 50% of the growth. This prune is the most important as it will keep your Hydrangea Tree well behaved and provide a solid structure to support the weight of the blooms to come!

Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
