How to use Rock-N-Roll™ Bigleaf Hydrangea in the landscape?

Rock-N-Roll™ Bigleaf Hydrangea can be about 4-5' tall and wide when mature, but don't let its size scare you away! This prolific bloomer makes an ideal addition to a cutting garden, pollinator garden, foundation planting or as a hedge!

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 5-8

How To Plant Rock-N-Roll™ Bigleaf Hydrangea

Big Leaf Hydrangea grow best when they get full sun for part of the day and shade the balance of the day. Up north where the summers are cooler they like full sun for up to 6 hours each day and as you move south and the summer sun is more intense the less full direct sun is desired. In zone 8 consider 2 hours of full direct sun as ideal. Your Big Leaf Hydrangea will have pink flowers in an alkaline soil and blue flowers in acid soil.

How To Water

Water twice weekly for the first 3-5 weeks; then water weekly for the remainder of the year until winter. When you water, water very slowly and very thoroughly. The water needs to reach to the bottom of the root ball and that takes time. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late year. Continue this for three years to get your plant well established.

How To Prune

Prune your hydrangea right after it flowers to control its size or to tidy things up. Don't prune it hard because those stems will have flower buds for next year! Your Rock-N-Roll™ Hydrangea is a reblooming variety and will follow its initial huge flowering period with more flowers through the rest of the summer and into early Fall.
