Why plant Rozanne Geranium?
Unstoppable! If Rozanne Geranium only bloomed in spring—like most Geraniums—it would certainly be worth planting in your landscape. Its luminous blue blossoms, each marked with a bright white eye, would earn it a place in anyone’s garden. But this overachiever is no one-season wonder. It flowers all summer and well into fall! For months, you’ll get a profusion of charming blue blooms on vigorous plants with clean, handsome foliage. Plant this billowy, spreading Spirit in your mixed borders and use it fill blank spaces with low-fuss color. So easy and rewarding! We love it, and we know you will, too.
Rozanne revolutionized Geraniums. Now, Geraniums are fine Spirits that have delighted gardeners for ages, but when Rozanne came along around 1999, it blew away all other Geraniums and set a new standard. With its incredible flower power, vigor, and beautiful foliage, it was in another realm. This magnificent plant was bred by Gomer and Rozanne Waterer of Somerset, England. It soon began to receive well-deserved accolades. In 2008, the Perennial Plant Association named it their pick for “Perennial Plant of the Year.” Only the most beautiful, adaptable, and pest- and disease-resistant Spirits are eligible for this prestigious award.
How to use Rozanne Geranium in the landscape?
Seed formation essentially tells a plant that reproduction is complete, and there’s no need for more flowers. Flower production shuts down. Rozanne Geranium bypasses this shut-down, because it’s naturally sterile and doesn’t make any seeds. It never gets the message to quit blooming, and that’s why it keeps going until frost cuts it down! This also means Rozanne will never become invasive and seed in where you don’t want it to go.
Hardiness Zone: 5-8
How To Plant Rozanne Geranium
Rozanne is a simple Spirit to grow. It will be most floriferous in full sun, but part shade is perfectly acceptable and is actually a better choice in hot-summer areas. Give it average to rich garden soil and an annual topping of organic mulch to feed the soil.
How To Water
Water regularly. Rozanne can tolerate short spells of drought, but will be lushest with consistent moisture.
How To Fertilize
The best time to fertilize your Rozanne Geranium is in early spring, as it begins to break dormancy.
How To Prune
Geraniums tend to be semi evergreen and clean up pruning should be minimal. If it spreads more than you care for, trim it back. It will recover quickly and resume blooming in no time. At the end of the growing season or anytime before the new growth appears in spring, cut back the dead foliage and flower stems.
