Why plant Weeping European Beech?

There will be no greater addition to your landscape than the stately and graceful Weeping European Beech. As the tree matures, the branches create a stunning weeping habit that creates a tent-like structure - transforming into the perfect fort for kids! In spring, lush, deep green leaves cover the pendulous branches as they fall to the ground, acting as the perfect cover for hide and seek. By fall, the foliage transitions to a shimmering golden bronze and can remain on the branching well into winter. But the golden leaves aren't the only winter attraction on this long-lived beauty - smooth, silver bark sparkles under the cover of snow, adding a mesmerizing layer of seasonal interest. Don't hesitate to add this unique and impressive specimen to your landscape as it is truly one of a kind!

Native to Europe, Fagus sylvatica is a dominant and commanding presence in the forests overseas. Fagus sylvatica 'Pendula', or Weeping European Beech was first introduced in 1836 by John Claudius Loudon - an English city garden planner and horticulturist. Within ten years, the Weeping European Beech made its way to America, although the deliverer of this wonderful weeping tree is unclear. Whomever it was, we are forever grateful for introducing this unique and elegant tree to the American landscape!

How to use Weeping European Beech in the landscape?

The perfect tree for a specimen planting, the Weeping European Beech is a graceful and admirable addition to your landscape in any capacity. It can be planted on either side of a driveway or simply by itself - just be sure to give it plenty of room to grow! Of course, you can always plant this play-inducing tree in the backyard, where kids and adults alike can explore the world underneath the pendulous branching!

How To Plant Weeping European Beech

Weeping Beech will slowly turn into the prized specimen tree in your yard that people will appreciate as they pass your property. Your beech will benefit if you plant it in a location that gets some afternoon shade in the southern end of its range. In colder climates it will be fine in full sun all day long.

How To Water

Water twice weekly for the first 3-5 weeks; then water weekly for the remainder of the year until winter. When you water, water very slowly and very thoroughly. The water needs to reach to the bottom of the root ball and that takes time. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements Fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.

How To Prune

Prune when needed in late winter. Prune only when necessary to keep the natural beauty and form of your Beech.

How Does Shipping Work?

Bower & Branch Trees, the real BIG trees, don’t fit in a box! Our large trees require expert delivery and care, that means our large trees are shipped on Bower & Branch trucks. We are the only ones who know how to ship our big and bigger trees and plants with tender loving care.

We deliver your trees and plants directly to your driveway or curbside! Ask Bower & Branch about planting services and rates – we'd be happy to assist in installation.

*Big trees, Size XL (A) and bigger, will take approximately 2 to 4 weeks days to be delivered. - Sizes large (AA) and smaller (Treelings) will be shipped directly to your home by a local common carrier in a plant-safe box.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health.. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
