Your Bower & Branch design plans have arrived and you’re thrilled! Now is the fun part, looking through the concept your designer brought to life and envisioning what the future of your yard will hold. Here we will walk you through each section of your new landscape plan, starting with section 1.
Notes From Your Designer
This is an overview of the key points and priorities you have communicated to your designer. The notes may reference your intake survey, garden style, design consult, problem areas, or further explanation of certain aspects of the plans.
Plant Schedule
The Plant Schedule is a breakdown of the plants proposed in your design. It includes how many of each plant Bower & Branch recommends, the Botanical Name and the Common Name, as well as the size to order. This is what we will use to price out your final design. Remember that making plant substitutions is common and totally fine as long as the plant fulfills the same purpose (size, color, etc.)
Planting Plan
A planting plan is an aerial layout of your yard that showcases both hardscape and softscape elements, giving you a clear visual of the designed outdoor space. This plan maps out the location of key hardscape features, such as patios, walkways, retaining walls, fire pits, and grill areas, alongside softscape elements like trees, plants, shrubs, and flowers. We have a specific post on how to read a planting plan that will be extremely helpful in understanding the symbols, colors, and more.
Plant Images
There will be a section that includes plant images to showcase what the recommended plants look like in full bloom. You can also google the plant names to see what they look like at different stages of growth and throughout the seasons.
3D Images
If you ordered 3D images, they will show what your mature plants will look like in 3+ years. It’s a great way to visualize how your design will grow into itself! Remember that plants do need some time to mature and look their very best.
Lighting Plan
A lighting plan will showcase what light fixtures Bower & Branch recommends and where it should be placed in your yard. The lighting legend details the type and quantity of each particular fixture. This section will also include examples of how the lights look in the evening.
Inspiration Images
The inspiration images showcase what the designer envisions different elements of your plan will look like. This is helpful in understanding the style and look of your yard when you are finished installing. Items showcased will be features like your fencing, pool, outdoor shower, walkway, steps, pergola, water features, fire features, etc.
Installation Guide
Lastly, you will receive instructions on how to think about next steps and getting started on installing your new yard.
Understanding a landscape design package empowers you to bring each detail of your outdoor vision to life. As you review the plans, remember to start with the big picture, noting overall layouts and focal points, then work through individual sections like planting and hardscape plans. Pay attention to symbols, scale, and any notes about plant care or material specifics. By following these tips, you’ll gain a clear understanding of how each element contributes to a beautiful, functional landscape that aligns with your goals.
