Why plant Redmond American Linden?
The wonderful Redmond American Linden, this sophisticated tree just seems so polite, offering its shade under those elegant branches and uniformly triangular shape. Make sure to look up as you lean against its tall, sturdy trunk to gaze upon the dense two-toned glossy green foliage. Definitely not the family runt, as Redmond American Linden boasts the largest leaves in the Linden family. This charmer has heart-shaped leaves that can be eight inches long to six inches wide! You think it's flirting with you now? Wait till June, when an abundance of bursting light yellow flowers bloom, filling your garden with an alluring perfume scent. In fall, Songbirds come singing along happily feasting on the small rounded nutlets found under the golden autumn foliage. Big, bold, easy to grow, wonderful in an urban setting, and a perfect canopy that can't be beat!
Redmond American Linden was introduced in 1927 by Plumtree Nursery of Freemont, Nebraska. The Linden Family name is derived from a Swedish botanist named Carl Linnaeus. Carl Linnaeus isn't actually his real name; he adopted his surname after his family's ancestral lands that were filled with mighty Linden trees. Once he became more well known as a botanist, he "Latin-ized" his name even more to 'Carolus Linnaeus.' A great man who truly loved his Linden tree roots!
How to use Redmond American Linden in the landscape?
Redmond American Linden finally received the recognition it deserved in 2000; it was voted Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists. This Linden is wonderful when planted as a specimen tree or lining your driveway - the pyramidal shape provides wonderful shade!
Planting Zones
Hardiness Zone: 4-8
How To Plant Redmond American Linden
Redmond American Linden is a large, noble tree for spacious sites in full sun or part shade. Clay is acceptable, but the soil should drain well. This tree prefers regular irrigation, though it’s somewhat drought tolerant once established. Mulch with wood chips or bark mulch to keep the root zone cool and moist. American Linden doesn’t cope well with salt or pollution, so it isn’t ideal for urban situations, like some of the European Lindens. It’s also vulnerable to Japanese beetle attacks, so plant with caution if these pests are prevalent in your area.
How To Water
Water twice weekly for the first 3-5 weeks; then water weekly for the remainder of the year until winter. When you water, water slowly and thoroughly. Watering needs may be altered due to extreme weather conditions. Once your tree is established, watering needs will lessen!
How To Fertilize
When planting, be sure to use the Bower & Branch Elements Starter Plant Food. After that, yearly applications in early spring are best to ensure your tree has all it needs for a happy and healthy growing season!
How To Prune
Prune your Redmond American Linden in late winter to early spring. It is best to remove any crossed branching that you may see forming.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
