Why plant Blueberry Glaze® Blueberry?
A treat, unlike any other! In spring, white bell hanging flowers ripen into a wonderful display of color as the berries turn from yellow, to red, to a gorgeous blue! Blueberry Glaze®, with its boxwood-like foliage, blooms an abundance of berries in mid-summer for an edible garden or patio pot. The flavor brings you back to the good ol' days of jumping over the farmer's fence for a handful of wild blueberries soaked in sunshine. Bake up a pie or two filled with Blueberry Glaze® this summer!
Fall Creek Farm & Nursery, Inc. breeders David Brazelton and Adam Wagner have created the complex hybrid Blueberry Glaze for your eating pleasure! This complex hybrid mixes THREE different blueberries: Vaccinium myrsinites, Vaccinium corymbosum, and Vaccinium angustifolium. With the help of expert blueberry breeder Arlen Draper, Blueberry Glaze® was born in 2008 under the name ‘ZF08-095’. To date, Blueberry Glaze® was patented in 2015 and is ideal for home gardeners looking to grow their fruit but maintain ornamental value in the blueberry bush itself.
How to use Blueberry Glaze® Blueberry in the landscape?
Like a boxwood, Blueberry Glaze® is the dwarf blueberry bush you didn't know you needed. Excellent as an ornamental shrub, Blueberry Glaze® brings color to its green foliage in the form of pink and white blooms. The berries grown on Blueberry Glaze® put on their own show as they change color from pale yellow to red and finishing as a shiny blue. Each berry is sweet and ideal for eating fresh or getting creative and adding them to a favorite dish in the kitchen. In the fall, enjoy the color transformation as the leaves go from green to purple, yellow, and red, perfect for welcoming autumn!
Hardiness Zone: 5-8
How To Plant Blueberry Glaze® Blueberry
Acid soil is key to growing Blueberries successfully. These peat-loving Accents require very low–pH conditions in order to thrive. If your soil isn’t naturally acidic, you may want to grow Blueberry Glaze® in a large container or raised bed. Give it all-day sun if possible and use lots of organic matter—both as a soil amendment and as mulch. Water weekly if no rain falls.
