Why plant Buffalo Juniper?
Small and ornate are two simple words that describe the Buffalo Juniper. Growing just about 15” tall and spanning almost 5’ these shrubs make perfect ground covers. These shrubs are evergreen providing long lasting color even during the winter months. Their blooms are not showy by any means however once their time has come bright blue berries decorate this shrub into the winter months feeding local birds to their heart's content. The spreading branches are covered in feathery soft foliage that accents any location this shrub is planted. The Buffalo Juniper offers tolerance to heat and drought making this one resilient little guy, and with the added ability to be kept via container you will never have to deal with a dull colorless area again.
How to use Buffalo Juniper in the landscape?
Providing soft, bright, foliage all year round is one of the best qualities the Buffalo Juniper can offer. Medium growth with minimal care required can't be beat. They are perfect in locations such as borders, grown for hedges, or utilized as accents in themed gardens such as rock, cottage, or asian. The Buffalo juniper also plants well with Russian Sage, Maiden Grass, as well as Barberries, allotting you many uses and ways of displaying this fine shrub.

How To Plant Buffalo Juniper
If you are looking for an easy shrub to add to your landscape then the Buffalo Juniper is the right fit. These shrubs offer adaptability to most soils as long as there is no standing water. They do tend to enjoy soils that are more alkaline. If you are unsure of your soil type, have it tested and amend the soil to fit the needs of the plants you would like to introduce to your property. You will also want to choose a location that provides full sun or up to 6 hrs of sunlight a day. These shrubs can thrive in locations where shade can be found, however they will not be as full and lustrous in those locations. Prune for shape water when needed and you will have a happy Buffalo Juniper for a long while.
How To Water
Simple enough WATER YOUR SHRUBS. No for real. Simply watering your Buffalo Juniper at a minimum of twice a week until established will be the best course of action. Once established the amount of water needed will be reduced. We recommend keeping an eye on your local weather and watering during periods of inclement weather such as high heat and drought. How To Fertilize
The process of feeding your Buffalo Juniper is much easier than you might think. When planting we advise applying fertilizer to the planting site, this will be the first feeding your Buffalo Juniper will receive. Now the Buffalo Juniper is not a heavy feeder, this means you wont need to apply fertilizer as often as other plants around your garden. If you planted your shrub in the spring the following spring will be the next best time to apply fertilizer, the same would apply if you planted in the fall.
How To Prune
If you were looking for a shrub that offered minimal maintenance the Buffalo Juniper is perfect for you. Mostly pruned to maintain shape the process would take place best in early spring before the push of new growth. Start by removing any dead or damaged areas of the shrub to aid in the appearance. If pruning for shape, take a moment and visualize how you want your Buffalo Juniper to look prune away one branch at a time making sure not to cut too deep on old wood for it will not continue to grow from that location. Only trim away the new growth in order to not hinder what's to come.
