Why plant Tamukeyama Laceleaf Japanese Maple?
Tamukeyama Japanese Maple is an exquisite weeping Japanese Maple with red laceleaf foliage and smooth branches that twist and turn as they cascade to the ground. Consider this elegant ornamental tree an investment in your home, because nothing adds value to a property like a beautiful Japanese Maple tree. You’ll want to plant your “Tammy” in a premium location in your landscape for all to see—near your front entrance, an island bed in your front yard, or near your deck or patio. Give it a permanent home where it can live out a long life, because this legacy tree will enchant for generations to come!
Tamukeyama (Ta-MOO-key-ah-ma) is not exactly a household word in the U.S., but Japanese gardeners have known this tree for 300 years. Its name, like so many other Japanese plants’ names, pays its respects to a mountain—in this case Mt. Tamukeya, in Kyushu. The mountain itself gets its name from 'tamuke', a solemn word meaning “spiritual offering”. New selections come and go, but Tamukeyama—on record as have been grown since 1710—soldiers on, outlasting them all. Its graceful, weeping habit and lacy, rich red foliage have been difficult to improve upon.
How to use Tamukeyama Laceleaf Japanese Maple in the landscape?
If you're looking for some excellent deep red color for your garden, then stop right here! Deep red foliage emerges in spring turning to a deeper purple-red in summer. Fall color brings about bright scarlet color - quite spectacular! This Japanese Maple is a more petite variety, so you'll be able to stick it in the garden almost anywhere!

Hardiness Zones: 5-8
How To Plant Tamukeyama Laceleaf Japanese Maple
Compared to most other red laceleaf Japanese maples, Tamukeyama is a more vigorous, faster-growing tree. You won’t have to wait forever for it to become a grand specimen. Plant this tree in a site that gets morning sun and afternoon shade to bring out the best of its crimson color.
How To Water
Japanese Maples will appreciate regular water during its first few years in the ground and irrigation during long dry spells after it’s established.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
Your Bower & Branch™ tree has received the proper pruning to give it a good start in life, and no further pruning is usually required. You may wish to shape your Tamukeyama with regular pruning, though this is not absolutely necessary.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
