Why plant Gracillimus Maiden Grass?

Classic elegance! Gracillimus Maiden Grass has long been cherished as a robust but fine-textured Fringe that will bring a touch of timeless sophistication to the landscape. Its ultra-slim leaf blades look sharp all season, and on windy days, they sway and ripple in the breeze, creating a soothing effect. In fall, large coppery plumes emerge. These soon become fluffy and silvery white, persisting well into winter. Whether planted as a bold focal point or in masse as a seasonal privacy screen, Gracillimus carries out its job with style.

Maiden Grass hails from Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan and is also known as Silver Grass for its shimmery, silver-white plumes. In this country, Gracillimus Maiden Grass has adorned home landscapes since Victorian times, and it remains one of the most popular Fringes you can buy today. Its long season of interest and ease of culture have made it a favorite. Plant it within your mixed borders to add fine texture and movement to the garden, or site clumps strategically to create privacy around an outdoor seating area.

How to use Gracillimus Maiden Grass in the landscape?

Gracillimus Maiden Grass will dress up the inside of your home, too! The soft, curly plumes are wonderful in dried arrangements. They are produced so abundantly that you can cut as many as you like and you’ll never miss them. So easy and beautiful!

How To Plant Gracillimus Maiden Grass

Gracillimus Maiden Grass is a fast-growing and easy-to-please Fringe. It will perform best in all-day sun and appreciates regular water and well-drained soil. Too much water or fertilizer can lead to floppy growth, so don’t overdo it. Gracillimus has proven to be invasive in areas with long growing seasons, and some states have banned its sale. It cannot be shipped to Connecticut or New York.

How To Water

Newly planted Maiden Grasses should be kept moist until it has established. After, this plant should be drought tolerant and will only need supplemental water only occasionally.

How To Fertilize

Feed your Gracillimus Maiden Grass with a general-purpose fertilizer in the early-spring. We recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food for that extra boost when being planted.

How To Prune

In the late winter prune down your Maiden Grass about 4 to 6 inches in preparation for the new growth that will emerge in the early spring. Old specimens may be rejuvenated by division; simply dig up chunks in late spring shortly after growth has resumed and replant.
