Why plant Avalanche Feather Reed Grass?

Oh gracious grasses! The Avalanche Feather Reed Grass is the perfect landscape accent for your garden! This beautiful grass can add color, texture, and height to your home landscape, as well as naturalize erosion control. In the spring, a reddish hue is omitted from this plant while showing off its lovely plume, and in the fall it turns to a tan brownish color. For the rest of the growing season, it exhibits shiny blades of green and white striped variegation. These grasses are multipurpose too! Those airy, pinkish plumes give your garden beautiful floral designs which can be turned into aesthetically pleasing dried decorations for the home and add year-round interest in the landscape. While they hold their color well into autumn, this wonderful foliage resists the weight of snow, maintaining upright growth.

How to use Avalanche Feather Reed Grass in the landscape?

Our Avalanche Feather Reed Grass is simply unique and has many great qualities to fit your gardens needs. This grass can play a main role just filling out your garden in between your other plants. With direct sunlight, this grass grows vertically and maintains is upright structure which can create tall hedges or formal rows providing either privacy or property limits. A focal point for your garden can be created by clustering multiple grasses to frame together seating and other special areas in your yard. Hardiness Zone: 4-9

How To Plant Avalanche Feather Reed Grass

These grasses look their best soaking up the sun, but a relaxed, partial shade area will suffice, creating a more flimsy texture. Along with sunbathing, they love to be hydrated. They need higher than average moisture, so a well-draining soil for their fibrous roots is the way to go. Feathered Reed Grasses have been categorized as "urban environment tolerant," as well as drought-tolerant, making them a good selection for roadside planting, and good in poor soil types.

How To Water

It is important to deeply water your reed grass during its first season, then water once every two weeks when the top two inches of the soil is dry.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.

How To Prune

To keep your Avalanche Feather Reed Grass looking fresh and clean, pruning is recommended in the late winter or early spring. Cutting down to a few inches above the ground just before new growth will help this plant thrive and continue to grow without interruption.
