Why plant Blue Oat Grass?
The Blue Oat Grass is a perennial grass offering lovely steel blue foliage with a wonderful pale brown bloom in midsummer. While it does resemble the Blue Fescue, the Blue Oat Grass is actually larger growing at an upwards of 18-30 inches tall. Forming in dense clumping masses, this plant enjoys full sun with well draining soil. This deer, drought, and rabbit tolerant grass also attracts butterflies.
The Blue Oat Grass won the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993, considered to be a mark of quality. In 2004 it was selected for Great Plant Picks.
How to use Blue Oat Grass in the landscape?
The Blue Oat Grass is an attractive ornamental grass that brings a uniqueness to any design. This plant offers dimensions to all landscapes with its unique color and texture. It's height makes it perfect for bed and border accents planted along walkways, or in a rock garden. Planting these in masses adds graceful movement to your landscapes. The Blue Oat Grass fits a multitude of landscape designs. It is helpful for erosion control, and for fire-scaping designs (aiding your home or landscape in more arid states that may encounter forest fires).

How To Plant Blue Oat Grass
Survives best in well-draining soil with full sun, low maintenance and, for best results, we suggest feeding once yearly with our Elements Fertilizer.
How To Water
These grasses are capable of enduring a drier soil but do take to watering regularly.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.
How To Prune
The Blue Oat Grass has a very easy care routine. Simply remove old leaves towards the end of the season.
