Why plant Grassland Sedge?

Introducing the Grassland Sedge, also commonly known as the Foothill Sedge, an ode to its native land. This luscious deep green sea of grass is the perfect backbone for your gardens. Grassland Sedge has it all in the name! Their fine foliage and abundant arching clumps will take away the awkward space and replace it with texture and dimension! These wonderful sedge plants will offer year-round vibrant color in your garden. In the late spring, tiny bronze flower spikes emerge from the foliage adding more personality. Just about anywhere in your garden Grassland Sedge will thrive and compliment your property well! Grassland Sedges have been introduced from Eurasia and naturalized in parts of Canada and Northeastern U.S. Our Grassland Sedges are rather low maintenance with tolerance to heat and humidity.

Grassland Sedges have quite the history! It has been said they were introduced into the California nursery trade by John Greenlee in 1990 - but was confused with the Berkeley Sedge that is native to California while the Grassland Sedge is European native! They wrongfully sold the wonderful Grassland Sedge as the Berkeley Sedge, causing a massive confusion in the nursery trade! Luckily, in 2005, the sedge was finally tagged and labeled as an exotic plant! The species does differ culturally from the California native Berkeley Sedge because it spreads aggressively and is more considerable tolerant to the cold. Don't shy away from this eye-catching garden accent!
