Why plant Purple FLAME™ Garden Phlox?
Intense! Flame™ Purple Phlox will supercharge your landscape. If you want electrifying color in your beds and borders, look no further. This scintillating Spirit puts out a profusion of vivid magenta-purple blossoms in summer. A repeat bloomer, the flowers keep coming for weeks. Flame™ Purple Phlox is different from other Garden Phlox, also known as Tall Phlox—it isn’t actually tall! Flame™ Purple is a compact little dynamo that will look sharp at the front of your mixed borders. You can even grow it in a pot on the patio. Too cute!
A cherished native Spirit, Garden Phlox (as this species is known) has a long history in this country in both natural and manmade landscapes. It’s found in the wild all over the eastern United States, preferring somewhat moist ground in open woodlands and river edges. Hummingbirds, butterflies, and all sorts of other pollinators flock to it for its sweet nectar. The Flame™ Series was actually developed in the Netherlands by Bartels Breeding. Nurseryman Gosen Bartels bred this line to be shorter than ordinary Garden Phlox and suitable for containers. Flame™ Purple was released in 2000.
How to use Purple FLAME™ Garden Phlox in the landscape?
Although Flame™ Purple Phlox is designed to be much more compact than the typical Garden Phlox your grandma grew, its stems are still long enough for cutting. Flame™ Purple makes a sweet addition to fresh bouquets for the table. Bring the beauty of the garden indoors!

How To Plant Purple FLAME™ Garden Phlox
Flame™ Purple Phlox is easy to grow and even novice gardeners will have success with it. Give it a spot in full sun for the most flower production. Light shade in the afternoon is a good idea in hot-summer regions. The soil should be rich and organic, yet drain well.
How To Water
Provide regular water, as Garden Phlox is not particularly drought tolerant. Water deeply and consistently during the first growing season.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
To prolong the blooming period, remove spent blooms. Flame™ Purple will die back to the ground after a few frosts in the fall, and it may be cut back then to make way for new growth in spring.
