While native to Japan this gorgeous specimen was introduced to the western world in the early 1800s as a tropical house plant. This plant can also be known as the Big-leaf Paper Plant, the Formosa Rice, or simply the Paper Plant. Please take the time to enjoy this homebody.
How to use Japanese Aralia in the landscape?

How To Plant Japanese Aralia
The Japanese Aralia is known for being a houseplant and compatible with a low light lifestyle. This plant enjoys more shaded areas outside the home. The Japanese Aralia also proves to be drought tolerant. However, this plant does tend to burn easily if left in the full blast of the elements such as harsh sun or strong winds. Be careful of too much moisture in the soil for it can cause root rot. You'll also need to monitor for insect activity such as aphids and mealybugs.
How To Water
Whether planted in the ground, kept in a container, or grown as a houseplant, the Japanese Aralia needs a moist, well draining soil. It is recommended you water weekly if outside, and may need frequent watering if grown in a container.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. If planting in the fall, use Elements fertilizer while planting and start your regular annual fertilizing the following fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established as it gives your tree the nutrients it needs to produce lush new growth for the following spring.
How To Prune
The Japanese Aralia doesn't usually require much pruning. To maintain its appearance, you may want to move old or faded foliage. Pruning is best done in spring.
