Why plant Knock Out® Coral Rose?

A punch of color for your landscape! Knock Out® Coral Rose is a vibrant, vivacious Accent that will make a big impact in your garden with its fragrant, floriferous display. In early summer, the double blooms burst open and keep on coming for months, until a hard frost finally shuts them down. A deep coral-orange color when unfurling, the blossoms eventually fade to a softer salmon-pink, and the multicolor effect at peak bloom is striking. Knock Out® Coral Rose belongs to a sturdy line of tough, disease-resistant, and cold-hardy Roses, so it’s also easy to care for and trouble-free. A winner by unanimous decision!

In the early ’50s, a nine-year-old boy discovered a passion for Roses, and he bought and planted his first Rose bush. Later in life, he would revolutionize Rose-growing with his own breakthrough introductions. William Radler of Greenfield, Wisconsin, was a county parks worker for many years, until a love of Roses led him to a full-time career in plant-breeding. Making hundreds of crosses each year and starting the seedlings in his basement, he worked on producing new varieties that were extremely disease-resistant and also cold-hardy. His Knock Out series is the new standard in landscape Roses. Radler added Coral Knock Out to the collection in 2007.

How to use Knock Out® Coral Rose in the landscape?

Rose blossoms are usually most vivid when the plants are grown in cool, mild climates. Coral Knock Out is said to be an exception to the rule. In hot, humid climates, the pink-orange color actually intensifies!

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 5-10

How To Plant Knock Out® Coral Rose

Plant your Coral Knock Out Rose in full sun for the most abundant flowering. Provide regular water—about an inch per week of supplemental irrigation if no rain falls. Mulch with organic matter such as shredded bark, wood chips, or leaf mold to help keep the root zone cool and moist. Soil should drain freely, however, and not stay soggy. Knock Out Roses are incredibly resistant to black spot and other diseases that typically attack Roses. You should not need to spray them. You may prune Coral Knock Out lightly at any time if you feel the need. A harder annual pruning in early spring will help keep plants smaller and neater.

How To Water

Newly planted Roses should be watered every two or three days, once Roses become established water them once or twice a week as needed to keep the soil moist.

How To Fertilize

Feed your Roses twice a year in March/April before flowering to encourage bigger and colorful blooms. We recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food in granular form.

How To Prune

Prune your roses in very early spring once you see signs of new growth emerging. You can cut your rose back by one half to two thirds of the total size of your plant. Expect your rose to almost triple in size in the coming months.
