Why plant Magic Carpet Spirea?

Truly a magical variety, Magic Carpet Spirea is a vibrant combination of colors. Lime-green foliage will flush out in early Spring, accompanied by clusters of soft pink flowers. With a light fragrance, the flowers bring an added joy to whatever location you decide to plant this deciduous shrub! Prepare to see a beautiful array of pollinating insects, like the Black Knight Butterfly, who crave the sweet nectar that this Spirea provides throughout summer! When fall arrives, an exciting transformation begins! The once green foliage will shimmer into a bright gold with fiery red bursts of color at the tips of each stem. If you want to add an explosion of color to your landscape, this is the shrub for you!

Long lasting in the United States, this Spirea variety has provided nourishment to many local pollinators! This has been an exceptionally beneficial plant to the Honey Bee population, providing a nectar full of nutrients to support them in their hard work! Originally this shrub was discovered in a colder climate, and has continued to be cultivated for many, many years due to its hardiness and easy to grow nature.

How to use Magic Carpet Spirea in the landscape?

Plant your Magic Carpet Spirea in a circle around your mailbox, or as a border to your walkway! If you're looking to grow a hedge, or even just to add a bold accent to your garden, don't look any further! Hardy, and easy to grow, the Magic Carpet can work well in many locations.

How To Plant Magic Carpet Spirea

This easy to grow Spirea can handle just about anything you throw at it other than shade or wet soil. Don't be concerned about pruning, in fact some people periodically cut theirs to the ground to rejuvenate the plant.

How To Water

After planting your Magic Carpet Spirea, you should water very thoroughly and keep an eye for the following weeks. You'll want to give a good soaking once a week during the summer unless you can rely on rainfall. Once your Spirea is established you can generally lessen your watering amount.

How To Fertilize

Established Spireas prefer when a light fertilizer is used. Our Elements Starter Plant Food is perfect for this type of plant! Sprinkle some of our granular plant food after planting and you won't have to again till next year!

How To Prune

Prune or shear your Spirea in late winter or early spring as the new growth starts to emerge. A light shearing after the first wave of flowers will encourage more flowers.
