Why plant Pearl Glam® Beautyberry?

Time to add some glitz and glam to your landscape with the Pearl Glam Callicarpa. While regular beautyberries only provide main interest in the fall, Pearl Glam adds interest from spring all the way through the fall. Spring brings the signature dark purple foliage that sets this shrub apart from all the rest. As the summer heat is lifting and fall is right around the corner, white blooms start to pop up as a prequel to the grand finale that everyone waits all year for. Once the blooms are spent, the traditional lavender-purple berries sprout in place of the blooms, adding interest to the landscape as the weather cools down in preparation for the winter ahead.

Callicarpas are a genus of native American shrubs that produce bright, vibrantly colored berries which cling to the stems from fall into winter. They grow in full sun and partial shade, making them ideal to plant along the edges of a wooded area or to use as a border or hedge. The berries attract birds and small mammals to your landscape, and make this bush a perfect addition to a wildlife garden.

How to use Pearl Glam® Beautyberry in the landscape?

Pearl Glam Callicarpa is a small deciduous shrub with purple tinged foliage and an upright growth habit. It is easy to grow and low maintenance, with very few pests or diseases. The summertime flowers are small and white, followed by clusters of luminous purple-violet berries in fall. These berries persist into winter and add bold color to the winter landscape.

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 5-8

How To Plant Pearl Glam® Beautyberry

Pearl Glam Callicarpa prefers to grow in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, although it adapts to other soil types. Dieback is common in the cooler climates.

How To Water

Water your Pearl Glam® regularly with a medium amount of water, especially during their first season to help with establishment. When growing in containers, use the finger test to know when to water them. Simply poke your finger into the root system, if it feels dry , then they need a nice drink of water.

How To Fertilize

Little fertilizing will be needed for this Beautyberry. When new growth emerges in the spring, add some of our Elements Starter Plant Food to give your plant the boost it needs!

How To Prune

If pruning is needed, do so in late winter to early spring.
