In early summer, we are delighted by the bright yellow blooms that remain a constant feature well into fall. The showy and cheerful blooms will bring bees, birds, butterflies to your landscape and are supported on tall stems of blue-gray foliage that offers a strong fragrance when bruised. By fall, the Rubber Rabbitbrush produces seed-like pods known as achene. These seeds provide quite the feast for birds to gear up for the winter season! From spring until fall, the Rubber Rabbitbrush has much to offer, don't wait to see these sunshine yellow blooms in your landscape!

In the past, Rubber Rabbitbrush was utilized by Native Americans within a wide range of applications. From chewing gum made from the bark, to tea, yellow dye, and surprisingly, cough syrup, they were able to determine multiple ways in which the Rabbitbrush was useful! It was also studied as a rubber substitute during World War II!

If your soil does not meet the criteria and you still want to plant one of these guys, simply amend your soil as needed and enjoy!

How To Water

You would be surprised to know that for the Rubber Rabbitbrush, watering requirements are extremely low. When first planted, water as needed when the soil is dry, however don't drench the roots. However, once established, Rabbitbrush offers excellent drought resistance and needs little to no water during the summer months. We know - weird - but true!

How To Fertilize

Keeping your plants fed is a great way to promote healthy growth and longevity. This process can start the moment you introduce the Rubber Rabbitbrush into your landscape! Rubber Rabbitbrush are a relatively low maintenance shrub, they maintain their compact form with little interference. You may also remove any dead or damaged branches to make way for new growth and allow for better air circulation. If you are looking to maintain an even more tidy look, once the blooms have passed, you may remove those branches to make way for newer growth.
