Why plant Jacquemonti Himalayan Birch?
You can't miss this one! This fancy dancy Birch tree has the whitest bark of all Birch trees. The bark of the Jacquemontii Birch develops its brightness at a young age, lending a striking contrast to the dark green leaves it holds throughout the season. Pick one up today - and don't forget your sunglasses....'cause these puppies are bright!
Europeans first “discovered” this Himalayan tree in the 1820s, though native peoples had been using its bark as writing paper for centuries. Because of its water-repellent properties, the bark has also been used in roofing, much as Paper Birch bark was once used in this country in canoe-building. Indeed, “usefulness” is written right into the White barked Himalayan Birch’s species name, 'utile'. Another utilization of the tree, however, has helped to put it on the Endangered List in its native lands: firewood. Could any more beautiful tree meet such a sad fate?
How to use Jacquemonti Himalayan Birch in the landscape?
Few trees in your landscape will get noticed more than White-Barked Himalayan Birch. You can highlight this drama queen at night with strategically angled landscape lighting, but you don’t have to, because that spanking-white bark is so bright it practically glows in the dark! Planted in front of evergreens or the dark brick or siding of your home, this flashy, fast-growing Birch tree will quickly make it clear who’s the star of the show. Though it’s an Asian species, White-Barked Himalayan Birch closely resembles our native Paper Birch, and like Paper Birch, it looks smashing planted in small groupings or groves. Underplant with daffodils and ferns for an unforgettable, low-maintenance vignette.

How To Plant Jacquemonti Himalayan Birch
Jacquemontii has dark green foliage and the whitest bark of all Birches. They enjoy being planted in full sun with moist, well-drained soil. Common pest problems for Birches are the bronze Birch borer and the Birch leaf miner. Keeping the tree as healthy as possible can prevent bronze Birch borers and Birch leaf miners. The borers can’t attack a healthy tree.
How To Water
The first 3 or 4 years you have a White Birch planted in your garden, you want to water it after the initial planting and during periods of drought, especially the Jacquemontii Birch – it doesn’t like dry soil! White barked Himalayan Birch will appreciate regular water during its first few years in the ground and irrigation during long dry spells after it’s established.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
Best times to prune a Birch tree is around late spring and late fall/winter. Annual pruning promotes healthy fresh growth. Remove any dead or diseases branches.

Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
