Why plant Dappled Willow - tree form standard?
A Willow with Attitude! The dazzling display of white, pink and green foliage on this tree-formed shrub demands the attention of you and your garden admirers. This one's easy to grow! Normally grown as a multi-stemmed shrub, this crafted Tree Form is truly a masterpiece! If you favor clean lines and manicured landscapes, you can easily shear its foliage into a tight globe shape, and if you prefer a more informal look, you can let it take a more free-flowing, natural rounded form. The choice is yours with this handsome, colorful, and adaptable tree!
You probably wouldn’t look twice if you saw this plant clothed in its usual green color in the wilds of Korea and Japan. This selection, however, is a jawdropper. Simply calling its pink/white/green foliage variegated would be an injustice, so the Japanese named it Hakuro-, meaning “white dew,” Nishiki, meaning “a beautiful combination of colors”—in reference to intricate Japanese tapestries made in days past. The Japanese had been growing this beaut for some time when Dutch plantsman Harry Van Der Laar brought it to the West’s attention in 1979.
How to use Dappled Willow - tree form standard in the landscape?
Our Tree Form Dappled Willow will bring a joyful pop of color to your landscape with its cheerful pink, white, and green variegated foliage. This fast-growing but small-sized ornamental tree will quickly fill out to become the star of your entryway garden, patio area, or poolside plantings, but will never overwhelm the space it’s given.

How To Plant Dappled Willow - tree form standard
Dappled Willow, also known as Hakuro Nishiki Willow, is a fast grower and has the best foliage color that I have ever seen on a willow. The Japanese name refers to the coloring of the leaves; the leaves emerge as a mixture of white, pink, and green. The Dappled Willow will provide it’s best foliage color if planted in full sun, if planted in a shaded area – the leaves will fade to all green. They prefer to be planted in soil that is moist, but not wet. Dappled Willows also have no major insect problems.
How To Water
Water weekly, or better yet, use the Bower & Branch® Water Element to deliver just the right amount of moisture to your tree throughout the growing season.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant Food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant Food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
Don’t be afraid to prune it! You may prune it aggressively 3 or 4 times during the season. The older foliage tends to turn plain green, keeping it pruned will provide you with that great dappled foliage again and again! Dappled Willows are vigorous growers; so prior to spring (either in fall or in winter) prune it all the way back – hard. This encourages a brand new flush of foliage in the spring.

Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.
Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
