Why plant April Showers™ Flowering Crabapple?
Crabapple Trees come in all shapes and sizes, but weeping forms are rare. That makes April Showers™ Flowering Crabapple a very special tree indeed. This petite wonder drapes its long, slender branches straight down by its sides instead of holding them upright like an ordinary tree. It looks a bit like a green Cousin It! In spring, April Showers™ goes from funny to fabulous when the soft pink buds appear and open to reveal sweetly fragrant white blossoms. By fall, the blooms have morphed into glossy red fruits like tiny apples, attracting songbirds such as robins and cedar waxwings.
Crabapple Trees are genetically the same as Apple Trees; the only difference is an arbitrary one: Crabapples have fruits that are less than two inches in diameter. The small, sour crabapples generally don’t make for good eating (although you can make them into jelly), so these trees are usually grown as ornamentals. A great deal of natural variation exists within the species, and there are many, many novel selections to choose from to fill any niche in the landscape. This one was discovered in the Czech Republic in 1998. Over the years, it has proved to be slow-growing and resistant to disease.

How To Plant April Showers™ Flowering Crabapple
April Showers™ Flowering Crabapple is easy to please and makes a good tree for novice gardeners. Plant it in an open, sunny area with good air circulation. April Showers™ isn’t picky about soil and will grow even in heavy clay as long as drainage is adequate.
How To Water
Be sure to keep your tree well supplied with water during the establishment period, so it can develop a strong root system. In subsequent years, it will be relatively drought tolerant.
How To Fertilize
Best time to feed this fella is in fall or late winter. We recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food to give that proper boost your plant will need.
How To Prune
Do any pruning directly after blooming, except for suckers that appear at the base of the tree, which may be removed at any time.

How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
