Why Plant Early Amethyst Beautyberry in Bulk?
STUN-NING! Early Amethyst is just that - stunning - with the sweet little lavender flowers and the vibrant purple fruit, this shrub will be catching the eye of everyone who visits your landscape. This beautyberry is not just a pretty face, though. Early Amethyst Beautyberry is a small deciduous shrub with green elliptic foliage and a rounded, compact growth habit. It is easy to grow and low maintenance, with very few pests or diseases. The summertime flowers are small and lavender colored that may attract pollinators. Vibrant purple berries adorn this shrub after the flowers have gone in late summer, early fall and can persist into winter and add bold color to the winter landscape. Although not edible to humans, the birds love and are attracted to these berries. Let Early Amethyst brighten up your landscape in the growing season and the off season with the purple accents that this shrub can offer.
Many people know of the North American native beautyberry Callicarpa americana, but not many know about Japanese beautyberry Callicarpa dichotoma. Similar to the American beautyberry, the Japanese variety has the same vibrant purple berries and small flowers, but the flower colors can vary from pink to purple. Native to China, Korea, and Japan, this variety is very similar in shape and appearance as the American beautyberry but it is hardier. Early Amethyst is best known for the early fruiting compared to other Callicarpa varieties.

Beautyberry is happy in most average garden soils. Ideally it likes a soil high in organic material that stays moist but not wet. It will grow best in full sun but will also perform in light shade. Very adaptable and can tolerate wide variations in growing conditions.
How To Water
In its first growing season, water the Beautyberry consistently and deeply to help the plants on its path to establishment. After a few years of consistent watering, the plant will be more drought-tolerant.
How To Fertilize
Fertilize your Beautyberry with a dose of balanced fertilizer starting in the spring. This will give your shrub a jump start in the growing season. We here at Bower & Branch recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food granular form to incorporate into the soil when planting.
How To Prune
Prune back hard each year in late winter or very early spring. cut back by at least 50%. Many gardeners cut it to 6" in height each spring to keep the plant more compact. It flowers on new growth, so the berry set in not negatively affected and generally is better when the plant is pruned hard.

How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
