Why plant E.H. Wilson Mimosa?
Bring a tropical vibe to your front yard landscaping, patio, or deck area with a beautiful E.H. Wilson Mimosa tree (a.k.a. E.H. Wilson Silk Tree). This exotic, fast-growing tree quickly forms an arching canopy of tiny, delicate green leaves to shade a cozy sitting area beneath. Hummingbirds will entertain you with their aeronautics as they swoop in on the fluffy, flamingo-pink flowers which last for weeks in summer. Plant this ornamental tree where it can be seen from both inside and outside your home, and you might even look forward to standing at the kitchen window to do dishes!
E.H. Wilson Mimosa is a true story of survival. Ernest Henry Wilson, also known as Ernest Henry “Chinese” Wilson is responsible for introducing thousands of Asian plant species to the West. In the early 1900’s he became a collector for Arnold Arboretum in Boston Massachusetts. During a visit to Korea in 1918, he collected seeds from a cultivated Mimosa tree in the hotel courtyard. Only a few seeds were collected and brought back to Boston. Four years later the seedlings were planted in the Arboretum, but after the first winter all but one died. This little champion was named the E.H. Wilson Mimosa and thanks to the efforts of E.H. Wilson and the Arnold Arboretum we now have a beautiful tropical tree that can withstand New England winters.
How to use E.H. Wilson Mimosa in the landscape?
If you like flowers, then this is the tree for you. Silky pink flowers bloom through summer. You will enjoy the delicate fragrance and unique green leaves this wonderful tree has to offer you and your landscape when you plant it near your back patio or as a vibrant specimen tree.

How To Plant E.H. Wilson Mimosa
Although they’re native to China, Mimosa trees are often associated with the South as they love the heat there. They thrive in full sun and hardly ever need to be watered once established - they don’t even complain if a little salt gets thrown their way if the sidewalks get icy in winter. ‘E.H. Wilson’ brings the added bonus of improved cold-hardiness—down to about -15°F. The only issue with Mimosas is fusarium wilt. It doesn’t always kill the plant, though—often the afflicted tree will spring back from the roots.
How To Water
Immediately after planting, you should water you Mimosa tree deeply and slowly to ensure the roots are able to absorb the water. After that, you should water every two to three days through summer. In fall, you can slow your watering to five to six days. Be sure to continue watering deeply and slowly each time. After your Mimosa becomes established, it will be more tolerant to drought conditions.
How To Fertilize
When planting, we recommend using the Bower & Branch Elements Starter Plant Food. Before placing the tree in the hole, mix the fertilizer in the bottom. After placing the tree in hole, apply fertilizer to the care bed as well. Top dress fertilize in spring and fall for the next three years to be sure your tree has the nutrients it needs to be successful.
How To Prune
The ideal time to prune your Mimosa tree is in late winter to early spring, while the tree is still dormant. Remove any damaged or dead branching, as cold damage can occur on this tropical-like tree. While pruning is not always necessary, Mimosas respond well to a quick trim if desired.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
