Why plant EXCLAMATION!™ London Planetree (Sycamore)?
Exclamation!™ is the toughest shade tree, period! Exclamation!™ London Planetree can handle whatever comes its way. Drought? Check. Flooding? Check. Road salt? Check. Air pollution? Check. And it’s as handsome as it is resilient. This large tree forms a strong single leader that grows straight and true, while the side branches grow upward to form a confident, upright-oval outline. The bold trunk is smooth to the touch, exfoliating to reveal patches of khaki, gray, army green, and white. The broad, dark green leaves, which remain clean and healthy all season, may briefly turn gold before dropping in fall and putting the tree’s majestic architecture and striking bark on full display.
The London Planetree gets its name from its origin in London over 350 years ago. It became a very popular tree there, even during coal-burning days, when the city was terribly polluted. London Planetree is not an English native, but a hybrid tree derived from our own American Sycamore and the Oriental Planetree from southeastern Europe and western Asia. Exclamation!™ London Planetree was developed at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois in the 1990s and was released through the Chicagoland Grows® program. It was bred to resist anthracnose, a fungal disease that can be troublesome with Planetrees. The new tree was also found to be very resistant to frost-cracking (bark splitting in winter) and powdery mildew, a cosmetic disease.
How to use EXCLAMATION!™ London Planetree (Sycamore) in the landscape?
Looking for some shade in a hurry? Exclamation!™ London Planetree is a fast-growing tree. With proper feeding and irrigation, a young tree may put on three feet of growth per year. As the tree matures, the growth rate will slow to one to one-and-a-half feet per year.

How To Plant EXCLAMATION!™ London Planetree (Sycamore)
Give your Exclamation!™ London Planetree plenty of room to grow and lots of sun for best results. It will tolerate only very light shade. This durable tree isn’t fussy about soil and can deal with compacted soil and other difficult situations, although optimal growth will be on fertile, deep, moist sites with decent drainage.
How To Water
During the first few weeks with your tree, water your Exclamation once or twice a week for about 45 minutes. Once plant has established, turn to only watering during dry spells using the same method of deeply watering for 45 minutes at a time. It will be relatively drought tolerant after the first few years of establishment.
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
How To Prune
Structural pruning your EXCLAMATION!™ London Planetree/ Sycamore every 7-10 years once tree is established is suggested. Make sure to prune your tree in the winter for shaping, removing lower branches will make it easier for new growths to provide shade.
Hardiness Zone: 4-8

Bower & Branch Trees, the real BIG trees, don’t fit in a box! Our large trees require expert delivery and care, that means our large trees are shipped on Bower & Branch trucks. We are the only ones who know how to ship our big and bigger trees and plants with tender loving care.
We deliver your trees and plants directly to your driveway or curbside! Ask Bower & Branch about planting services and rates – we'd be happy to assist in installation.
*Big trees and shrubs, Size XL (A) and bigger, will take approximately 2 to 4 weeks to be delivered. - Sizes Large (AA) and smaller (Treelings, Shrubs, Bushes, and Perennials) will be shipped directly to your home by a local common carrier in a plant-safe box.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health.. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
