Why the Goshiki Variegated False Holly?

Magic is in the air when Goshiki is around. This colorful evergreen will have your landscape flourishing in variegated bliss with colors ranging from red, green, yellow-green, and creamy white. A wide character, Goshiki is a great shrub to use for covering areas that require a wider shrub instead of an upright individual.

'Goshiki' is a Japanese word that translate to 'five colored' used to describe the abundance of colors that each leaf contains. False Holly is a native of Japan and Taiwan and are known best for the waxy, evergreen leaves.

How to use in the landscape?

Slow growing, naturally compact, evergreen and with fabulous multi-colored leaves. While the common name False Holly isn't very glamorous, the plant is. You will appreciate Goshiki when the shades of yellow, pink, orange, cream, and white burst forth to wash your landscape in color. Goshiki is a smaller shrub that is ideal for use in containers or plant a bunch to make an informal, colorful hedge that will set your landscape apart from the neighbors.

How To Plant

A cold weather lover, Goshiki makes itself right at home in the colder climate landscapes. You will want to provide protection from winter winds and mulching around the base to cover the roots is the best recommendation for this shrub. Pruning can be done to your preference, or prune just enough to help this shrub maintain it's shape.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting.
