Why plant Green Bartlett European Pear?
Aromatic, sweet, and mellow, Bartlett pear is the classic pear that we all know and love. Unparalleled for fresh eating, it’s elegant with wine and cheese, refreshing in a salad, and perfectly satisfying all by itself. With our Mini Bartlett Pear Tree, now you can enjoy the simple pleasures of growing this luscious fruit at home. Each year, you and your family will look forward to late summer and feasting on fresh Bartlett pears to your hearts’ content. And because this is a miniaturized Pear Tree, it will never get out of control and become too much of a good thing. Bon appetit!
The Bartlett Pear Tree originated in England, but if you ask for a Bartlett in Europe, people might not know what you mean. The earliest record of the famous tree dates back to the late 1760s at the home of an English schoolmaster. From there, the tree passed to a nurseryman named Williams, who called it Williams’ Bon Chrétien (Good Christian). Some 30 years later, a few Williams Pear Trees were sent to the U.S. and planted on an estate in Massachusetts. However, the tags were lost, and when Enoch Bartlett later acquired the estate—you guessed it—he rechristened the trees, ‘Bartlett’. To this day, Europeans still call this tree the Williams Pear (rightly so), while we Americans stubbornly stick to ‘Bartlett’!
How to use Green Bartlett European Pear in the landscape?
Pears are unusual in that they don’t ripen gracefully on the tree—they tend to develop a grainy texture, and the core turns mushy and rotten. Pick your Bartlett pears when they’re mature, not ripe, and let them develop their smooth, mellow flavor indoors. They’ll change from green to yellow, indicating that they’ve reached their juicy, delectable best.
Planting Zones
Hardiness Zone: 4-9
How To Plant Green Bartlett European Pear
Plant your Bartlett Pear Tree where it can bask in all-day sun and enjoy moderately rich, well-drained soil at its feet. Avoid low-lying areas, where late frosts can zap the early spring blossoms. You’ll need to have another variety of Pear nearby to pollinate the blooms and enable good fruit set (Seckel isn’t compatible, however).
How To Fertilize
Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
