The Mount Airy Fothergilla, the shrub that you'll want multiples of! This decorative shrub will bloom sweet honey-scented white flowers in the early spring, that transition to leathery blue-green foliage in the summer. When fall comes around, you'll be surprised of the fightingly stunning show the foliage provides. With many beautiful colors of yellow, orange, and reddish-purple—it'll be sure to knock your socks off! This shrub won't be shy in the winter either! Even though there's no leaves or flowers the Fothergillas' dark colored barks compliments the winter scene well!

The name 'Mount Airy' comes from the Arboretum in Cincinnati where this cultivar was discovered by plantsman Mike Dirr. He curated the cross we all know and love today!

How to use Mount Airy Fothergilla in the landscape?

There are so many ways you can use this fella in your landscape. With how fragrant these plants are in the spring, it is recommend to plant them somewhere you can enjoy their scents, like near a porch or patio, near an entryway, or near any window where its beautiful smells can linger into your home. This shrub has an incredible unique formal shape that works wonderfully along a length of a side yard, or compliments the corner of any foundation plantings. Use this shrubs interesting form to line your driveway and create colorful dimension. It is best to use multiple of these fellas when planting in your landscape to really get the full effect.

How To Plant Mount Airy Fothergilla

When planting this fella in your landscape, you'll want to plant it in an area where it can reach full sun with some shade, as they love those sun rays but will also love a shade break. This shrub prefers to thrive in any well-draining soil types that are slightly acidic. Plant this shrub somewhere they can achieve its full height and width potential, you'll love this beauty living in your yard.

How To Water

For a new Fothergilla, you'll want to provide a moderate amount of water regularly, this helps the plant become established in a new home. After establishment, you'll want to give your tree supplemental water if there is an extended drought.

How To Fertilize

When fertilizing the Fothergilla, it is best done three to four times a year, starting in April and ending in mid-July. We recommend using our Elements Starter Plant Food when feeding your happy little plants!

How To Prune

When the Mount Airy Fothergilla has been allowed to grow to its full potential, pruning and upkeep will be minimal. Only prune out dead or misdirected branches. Prune only in the late spring, after it has flowered.

Plants arrived almost dead - nearly all leaves had fallen off plant. Trying to nurse them back to life. Not sure I will be successful.
