Why plant Nikita's Gift Common Persimmon Treeling?

Cold hardy, self-pollinating, and producing large fruits, Nikita's Gift is guaranteed not to disappoint! This self-sufficient persimmon brings the best of both worlds: the hardiness of American persimmons and large fruits similar to those produced by Asian persimmons. Nikita is a perfect tree for any persimmon-lover's landscape or anyone looking to add a unique fruit to their home orchard. Brighten up your landscape with the vibrant red-orange fruits and fall color of Nikita Persimmon today!

From the Nikita Botanic Garden in Ukraine, a gift was discovered. Nikita's Gift is an American/Asian hybrid persimmon that is enriching the persimmon tree selections. Native from Connecticut to Florida and reaching as far west as Kansas, the Common Persimmon is a part of our country’s natural heritage. Since the days of the earliest Native Americans, its fruits have been a special treat for people in the East and Midwest. Don’t eat them before they’re ripe, though! Biting into a bitter persimmon before it’s ready is a mistake you’ll only make once. When they’re jelly-soft, however, they become as sweet as candy. Because the wood of the Persimmon Tree is incredibly hard, it’s used to make golf club heads. This tree is closely related to Ebony, a tropical tree with extremely dark, dense wood that has traditionally been used to make the black keys on pianos.

How to use Nikita's Gift Common Persimmon Treeling in the landscape?

A unique hybrid with a bountiful harvest, Nikita’s Gift will be a persimmon that will earn its keep in your landscape year after year. If the fact that you do not need to plant another persimmon nearby hasn’t won you over, then maybe the expectation of stunning fall foliage in oranges and yellows will get you excited. In between the fall foliage, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the red-orange decorating the branches. The sweet fruits of this persimmon ripen in mid to late October and are very flavorful, great for eating fresh! To make sure you choose fruits ripe for eating, you will want to select the fruits that have the same texture (softness and tenderness) as a tomato; those are ripe for the picking!

How To Plant Nikita's Gift Common Persimmon Treeling

Nikita's Gift Common Persimmon flourishes in fencerows and other wild spaces all over the eastern U.S., and it will most likely thrive in your garden as well without a lot of fuss. Give it a site in all-day sun in soil that drains well. Regular water is important during the establishment period, but once its sturdy roots are firmly anchored in the ground, your Persimmon will be quite drought tolerant. Try to avoid damaging the trunk, which will encourage this tree’s natural tendency to sucker. Suckers may be cut or mowed off to maintain a single-trunked specimen, or they may be left to do their thing if you’d like a multi-stemmed, seasonal privacy screen to develop.

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
