Why Plant Nugget Ninebark?
The Nugget Ninebark shrub is the product of South Dakota State University. While other variations of the Ninebark offer foliage ranging from green to burgundy in color the Nugget remains bright and cheerful. In spring we notice light yellow foliage that matures chartreuse in summer then golden yellow come fall. This shrub also produces lovely small white blooms in late spring that enjoy the company of butterflies and other pollinators. Once the blooms have had their time in the spotlight soon grows little red fruits that are highly attractive to birds and easily add a pop of color to those diminishing landscapes as winter approaches. Growing anywhere from 5-10’ tall and spanning 6-8’ wide this shrub easily fits in most spaces.

When considering soil, either moist or dry will do just fine, no need to worry about the pH of the soil either just proving how adaptable this Nugget can really be. This shrub also offers tolerance to urban pollution, opening up the inner city to colors and hues that will break up the bleak gray stone jungle.
How To Water
The process of watering your Nugget Ninebark is simple and beneficial. We recommend watering at a minimum of twice a week until established. Once established although the Nugget Ninebark does offer some drought tolerance we recommend just reducing the amount of water to once a week or more if needed. We also recommend keeping an eye on your local weather and watering during periods of inclement weather such as high heat and drought. This will ensure the health and safety of your shrub.
How To Fertilize
Just like you and I enjoy a little snack every once in a while, so will your Nugget Ninebark. Feeding your shrub is a simple and easy process that promotes the growth and health of the plant. Simply incorporate fertilizer to the planting site to initiate the first feeding. If you planted in the spring the next feeding should be in fall before the onset of dormancy. If planted in the fall the following spring is the perfect time to reapply your fertilizer. Continue this schedule for the life of the plant and enjoy.
How To Prune
Once planted and some time has passed it's soon time to consider the process of pruning your Nugget Ninebark. If you are considering pruning for shape, this process may take place in late winter or early spring before the push of new growth. You may also choose to prune once the blooms of that growing season have come to an end. Pruning any damaged or broken branches may be done at any time and will aid future growth by clearing out the clutter.

How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
