Why plant October Magic® White Shi-Shi™ Camellia?

An early snow shower of blooms is coming with the October Magic White Shi-Shi Camellia. These pure, frosty white blooms bring a much needed flower burst during a time when trees and other flowering plants are becoming dormant in anticipation for winter. Each double bloom brings with it an air of formality and a clean look to your fall landscape. A compact and low to the ground shrub, October Magic White is perfect for landscapes large and small and provides crisp green foliage year round.

Camellias are native to Japan and many old varieties can still be found growing in the grounds of Japanese temples. Dutch traders brought them to Europe in the 1800's and they quickly became very popular. October Magic White Shi-Shi Camellia is truly one of the most beautiful of the camellias to be found today. This compact camellia produces a perfect double bloom that will brighten your gardens from mid-fall through winter.

How to use October Magic® White Shi-Shi™ Camellia in the landscape?

October Magic White Shi-Shi Camellia is a dwarf evergreen shrub with a dense growth habit, growing only 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. This makes it ideal for growing in small spaces or containers. It produces masses of white double blooms from mid-fall through winter, adding color at a time when other plants are shutting down. October Magic can be used as a specimen plant, in groupings or a hedge, as well as being a fine addition to white themed gardens, Asian and cut flower gardens.

How To Plant October Magic® White Shi-Shi™ Camellia

Camellias have a bad reputation that they are hard to grow, but if they are planted in the right location, they are really care free. They like to grow in moist, slightly acidic, well drained soils, similar to azaleas and rhododendrons. They thrive in part shade, preferring to have mid morning sun, being protected from the hot afternoon sun. They can take full sun when they are a mature plant. Camellias also like to be protected from cold, dry winds. Take care to find that sweet spot for your Camellia and it will reward you with years of beautiful blooms!

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.
