How To Plant Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel

This plant lives its best life when grown in full sun but also may enjoy partial shade. In hotter climates it will appreciate some shade so keep that in mind. The Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel has a wide variety of tolerances including dry or poor soils, pollution, heavy pruning, and most urban conditions. We do recommend planting in either spring or fall for best establishment results.

How To Water

Watering your Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel when first planted should occur on a weekly basis. Every other day for the first two to three weeks until established. When settled, commence watering when necessary and be mindful of dry, hotter, periods checking the soil and making sure their thirst is quenched.

How To Prune

The Otto Luyken Cherry Laurel is a low maintenance shrub that does not normally require pruning. Once established, during late spring early summer pruning may be done just to keep them looking neat and tidy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Otto Luyken blooms in creamy white, producing upright spring flower spikes with a notably fragrant scent.

Water deeply and consistently through the first growing season, keep a mulch ring to protect roots and retain moisture, and plant in well-drained soil. Once established, it is adaptable and performs well in sun to part shade.

If pruning is needed, prune after flowering has finished and use hand pruners rather than shearing to avoid damaging the leaves and to keep the plant looking clean.
