Why Plant Pink Chimes Japanese Snowbell?

The Pink Chimes Japanese Snowbell tree is a delightful underused ornamental tree that will give you many years of enjoyment as a living patio umbrella. This small flowering tree naturally forms an arching canopy to shade an intimate seating area underneath for dining or relaxing. This will be your favorite place to sit in spring, because looking up, you’ll get the best view of the frosted pink bell-like blossoms hanging from every branch. As a bonus, the flowers have a lovely, sweet scent! This pink Snowbell tree is a Bower & Branch favorite, and we’re pretty sure it will win your heart, too.

The first instance of a Japanese Snowbell being described by a Westerner was by Philipp Franz von Siebold in 1836. Siebold was a German physician and botanist who spent much time in Japan. He fell in love with a Japanese woman there, and their daughter became a physician herself—Japan’s first female doctor! But we digress… Siebold didn’t actually collect any Snowbell seeds; that task was up to Englishman Richard Oldham to do in 1862. This nifty pink-flowering selection originated at a Japanese nursery in the city of Angyo in 1976.

How to use Pink Chimes Japanese Snowbell in the landscape?

A special tree for a special person - YOU! Pink Chimes is an ornamental tree that stays somewhat small and can fit into smaller, tighter spaces. The month of May brings about rows of fragrant, tiny pink bell-shaped flowers - just a beautiful specimen tree. Be sure to put a bench beneath it to enjoy the lovely flowers!

Planting Zones

Hardiness Zone: 5-8

How To Plant Pink Chimes Japanese Snowbell

Snowbell likes full sun but also tolerates light shade. Snowbell does best in organic, moist, well-drained soils and prefer to be in an area protected from wind. They are also relatively free of insect problems.

How To Water

After planting, be sure to water your new Pink Chimes slowly and deeply. Water this way every three to four days for the first growing season. Be sure to supplement watering in times of drought.

How To Fertilize

Snowbells will respond well to a once a year application of low rate tree fertilizer in the fall. We recommend using the Bower & Branch Elements Plant Food for the first three years - at least - to be sure your tree has all it needs to thrive!

How To Prune

Pruning requirements are practically non-existent. If your Japanese Snowbells get a little out of hand, you can keep them under control by shearing them after flowering. Yes, shearing. Literally taking hedge shearers and cutting it back. Believe us, your Snowbell will respond well to this type of pruning!

Your trees and plants are grown across the United States at various Bower & Branch Growers. Depending on your location, your plant orders may be shipped from various locations. Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
