Why Plant PowWow® White Coneflower?

It’s a knockout! PowWow® White Coneflower brings bold, bright blossoms to your summer landscape. This zesty native Spirit puts up a fantastic display of stark white flowers with glowing golden orange cones over a long period. Butterflies flock to the blooms. Great spangled fritillaries—those large orange, black, and tawny brown butterflies with iridescent silver spots—are especially fond of the blossoms. Give your entryway garden, foundation beds, or patio plantings some zing, and make a butterfly paradise while you’re at it!

Purple Coneflower is a cherished wildflower Spirit native to the Midwest, Southeast, and Southern Plains. This showpiece of our natural heritage is found in a variety of sunny to lightly shaded sites. In ancient times, Native Americans used the plant in their herbal pharmacy, and today you will still find it at the store under its Latin name. Extracts of Echinacea, or Purple Coneflower, are sold to give the immune system a boost, or so it is said. PowWow® White was developed by PanAm Seed, a division of Ball Horticultural near Chicago, as a compact, seed-grown variety.

How to use PowWow® White Coneflower in the landscape?

PowWow® White Coneflower makes a nice cut flower for arrangements. However, you’ll want to be sure to let some blooms form seeds, because the goldfinches love them. In late summer, the bright yellow birds will entertain you as they dig into the plump seedheads, excited about the bounty they’ve discovered!

How To Plant PowWow® White Coneflower

For best results, plant PowWow® White Coneflower in a sunny site or in a spot that receives shade only during the hottest part of the day. The soil should be of medium fertility and must drain freely. Cold, boggy soil in winter is not its friend. Deadhead spent flowers to keep the plant looking fresh if you wish, but remember that no seedheads at all means no goldfinches and no winter interest, either. On the other hand, plants allowed to go to seed may reseed in your landscape beds—you may consider this a plus or a minus. Coneflowers love heat and are slow to emerge, so be patient.

How To Water

Water as soon as they arrive! Coneflowers need to be watered regularly to maintain evenly moist soil for proper establishment in the landscape.

How To Fertilize

Incorporate Elements Starter Plant food granular form into the soil when planting. If planting in spring or summer, start fertilizing late fall using Elements Starter Plant food granular form on an annual basis each late fall. Continue this for the first three years to get your plant well established.

How To Prune

Trim the PowWow® White Coneflower back after the first wave of summer blooms are spent, and you’ll be rewarded with another flush of flowers. Cut old stems down before new growth appears in spring.

Please expect orders with multiple items to be delivered over a number of days as a result. Orders made up of numerous items or selections will not arrive at your home on the same day.

Shipping Delays:

From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.

How Does Sizing Work?

The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)

Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.

All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
