Why plant Princess Diana Serviceberry?
Beauty and grace are not the only positive characteristics of the Princess Diana Serviceberry! This multi-stem tree provides a seasonal show from the bark to the foliage. In spring, the Princess Diana Serviceberry illuminates landscapes by providing clusters of creamy white blooms before giving way to the foliage of the new year. The new foliage of this Serviceberry emerges with an almost a bronzed tint, maturing into dark green for the remainder of the warmer seasons. Directly following the blooms, the Princess Diana Serviceberry provides edible berries. These berries are sweet with a taste reminiscent of blueberries and may be used in jams, jellies, and pies, or just eaten right from the branch! Another positive aspect of the berries are their ability to attract birds, bringing wildlife to any landscape. With the onset of fall, the once lush green foliage transforms into a stunning reddish orange hue before reaching its dormancy. However, even during the winter months the smooth gray bark of the serviceberry adds texture and dimension to any landscape!
How to use Princess Diana Serviceberry in the landscape?
The Princess Diana Serviceberry offers dazzling blooms in April, edible fruits in June, and spirited red fall color. Even in winter, this tree offers visual appeal with its smooth gray bark. We would love to offer just a few ideas when looking for the perfect locations to plant your tree! The Princess Diana Serviceberry looks stunning when planted in front of a darker foliage, such as an evergreen border. These trees don't have an aggressive root system and provide dappled a shade, allowing perennials to be planted under them. Here's just a few friends that plant well with the Princess Diana Serviceberry: the Coneflower (aiding in the abundance wildlife will enjoy), Coral Bells, and the Lenten Rose. With that being said, some locations that would provide stunning landscape pizzazz are as a specimen to attract the curious eye, utilized as an accent piece in a foundation planting, or planted in groups to make a small grove. We can’t wait to see how you give this tree life and its forever home!
Planting Zones
Hardiness Zone: 4-9
How To Plant Princess Diana Serviceberry
The Princess Diana Serviceberry enjoys moist but yet well draining soils and offers adaptability to most soil types. Worthy of full sun, this Serviceberry is also capable of surviving in partially shaded locations. However for best color when considering fall foliage, the more sun the better!
How To Water
While drought tolerant once established, like all living things, your Serviceberry is going to require some watering. When first planting, it is customary to water at least twice a week, thereafter, once a week will suffice. We do advise keeping an eye on your local weather and watering during periods of hotter, more dry weather.
How To Fertilize
The Princess Diana Serviceberry will benefit from fertilizing twice a year; first, in early spring before the push of new growth. Next, in fall as your tree begins to go dormant. Here at Bower and Branch we offer our Elements Starter Plant Food to meet all your fertilizer needs.
How To Prune
Looking to maintain your Serviceberry but not sure how to start? We've got your back! We advise starting your pruning process in late winter/early spring, just before the push of new growth as to not hinder said growth. During the first few years, it's best to prune away any weak or damaged branches, this will assist in the overall health and growth of your Princess Diana Serviceberry. When older, depending on your design ideals, you may prune more attentively to control the height and shape, while also promoting a more healthy growth habit.

Shipping Delays:
From time to time, Bower & Branch Growers may determine to delay order shipment based on various factors for plant health. Weather in your region, as well as, where your plants are grown, is always considered when shipping. Extreme weather conditions may delay some or all of your order. Bower & Branch allows our Growers to make final shipping decisions based solely to benefit your trees and plants’ health and success.
How Does Sizing Work?
The size of our trees have nothing to do with the container size like you may find elsewhere–big doesn't mean just height - it’s also vigor, age, and overall health. Other online retailers are going to tell you that a plant is a seven gallon, that means nothing to your tree or plant (or you.)
Our trees for sale online are graded on large, x-large, and even bigger sizes. This is because our trees are sized by their age—the higher the letter, the more mature the tree. The age determines the trees’ overall height, size of the trunk and the overall branch density.
All of these characteristics are what you should be looking for when choosing a tree for immediate impact and instant curb appeal. Our extra-large tree and plant sizes are sure to wow you and your neighbors!
