Why plant Redflower False Yucca?

Dazzling blooms of coral-red to pink explode from your landscape and sparkle in the sun each spring and summer! The Redflower False Yucca is a charming native plant that can be found growing naturally in the deserts of Texas and down into Mexico! These shrubs grow up to 5’ tall and about 6’ wide and offer a beautiful display. In warmer climates, this shrub provides an evergreen aesthetic, staying vibrant even during the winter season. In areas with cooler winters, it will take on perennial characteristics by entering dormancy for winter and coming back the following spring. Unlike actual Yucca plants, the foliage of the Redflower False Yucca is spineless and offers an intricate design with threads exposed along the rim of the leaf. Tall stalks appear from the center of the plant, where blooms of bright red flowers can be enjoyed from spring into summer!

How to use Redflower False Yucca in the landscape?

If you have been searching for a unique plant to add to your collection, then the Redflower False Yucca is definitely a must have. Sporting bright red flowers high above the blue-green foliage from spring to summer, the Redflower invites pollinators and hummingbirds to visit your landscape. These shrubs offer minimal maintenance and a wide adaptability to planting locations including containers. The Redflower False Yucca also provides tolerance to many damaging conditions such as drought, erosion, pollution and more. You can utilize this shrub in mass plantings or leave it to stand alone as a specimen; the opportunities are endless.

How To Plant Redflower False Yucca

The Redflower False Yucca is fairly simple to grow. Requiring locations that provide full sun, the Redflower False Yucca can also thrive in areas that offer partial shade. When considering soil preference, this shrub is capable of growing in loam, sand, shallow rocky locations, and normal garden soils - simply as long as they offer well draining qualities. These shrubs are low maintenance with a medium growth rate and can grow in either containers or planted in the ground.

How To Water

We recommend watering your Redflower False Yucca at least twice a week until your plant is established. Once establishment occurs, you may reduce the amount of water needed to once a week. We do recommend watering during periods of inclement weather such as high heat or drought. Keep in mind plants grown in containers will require more water even after established compared to those grown in the ground.

How To Fertilize

When considering the feeding process for the Redflower False Yucca, it's simple and easy to do. At the time of planting, start the application process by adding fertilizer to the planting site, this is considered the first feeding. These plants are not heavy feeders, so one application a year will do just fine. In locations where winters are warmer and dormancy does not occur, you will still maintain feeding once a year for the best growth possible.

How To Prune

The Redflower False Yucca is easy to care for when considering maintenance. Simply remove any dead or damaged foliage to create a clean and tidy appearance. The flower spikes should also be removed at the base to make way for new growth. To control the ability this plant has to spread, cut the seed pods while they are still green before they have the chance to dry and spread.
